Privacy Policy for SoberQuest

Last Updated: September 6, 2026

Introduction

SoberQuest (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application SoberQuest (the “App”). Please read this privacy policy carefully. This policy also covers our website at soberquestapp.com. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the App.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us

Addiction Tracking Data

  • Types of addictions you choose to track
  • Sobriety start dates
  • Progress reset dates (if you choose to reset your progress)
  • Daily check-in records
  • Personal motivation text
  • Badge unlock achievements

Information Collected Automatically

Device Information

  • Device type, model, and screen size
  • Operating system name and version
  • App version and build number
  • Language and time zone
  • A pseudonymous identifier, described under How You Are Identified below

Analytics Data

We use PostHog to measure how the App is used. Events go to PostHog’s United States region through e.soberquestapp.com, a subdomain we control that forwards requests to PostHog. The App sends:

  • Which screen you open, when you leave it, and how long it was on screen
  • Which feature you used and what you did with it, such as starting a breathing exercise or saving a check-in
  • Onboarding steps you viewed, finished, or went back from
  • App opens, backgrounds, and terminations, with the length of the session
  • Badge milestones, as a badge identifier and a day count
  • Paywall opens and outcomes, purchase and restore results, and subscription status
  • Notification permission results and whether a reminder was scheduled
  • Requests to the AI Insights service and whether they succeeded
  • Grouped profile values: a sobriety band such as 7 to 29 days rather than a date, how many trackers you keep (counted up to 20), whether you are on the free or paid plan, and whether onboarding is finished

What Analytics Never Contain

The App builds every analytics payload from a fixed list of names and numbers. It never sends your sobriety dates or streak counts, your check-in notes, your reflection or Cost-Benefit Analysis text, your personal motivation text, your custom quotes, your urge-log answers, your name, your email address, or your photos. Nothing you type in the App reaches an analytics event.

How You Are Identified

Analytics events carry a pseudonymous identifier that we reuse from Superwall, our paywall provider, and a random identifier that the PostHog software generates and stores on your device. Neither is your name or your email address. We do not read the Apple advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt, and we do not read the identifier for vendor (IDFV). Deleting the App removes both stored identifiers.

Crash and Error Reports

If the App crashes, PostHog writes a report on your device and sends it the next time you open the App. A report holds the failure type, the addresses or names of the running code, device and operating system details, and the recent analytics events listed above, so we can see the path that led to the crash. It does not hold your tracking data or anything you typed. We also report handled failures, such as a storage write that did not complete or a summary request that failed. A handled report carries only the name of the operation, the error domain, and the numeric error code the system returned.

Install Attribution

On first launch the App asks Apple whether the install came from an Apple Search Ads campaign. Apple returns campaign, ad group, keyword, and ad identifiers, a country or region, and a click date, or reports that the install did not come from an ad. Those identifiers name our advertising campaigns, not you or your device. The App stops asking after eight attempts. The App has no deep links and takes attribution data from no other network.

Information from Third Parties

Subscription Management (via Superwall and Apple)

  • Subscription status
  • Purchase history
  • Trial usage status
  • Subscription expiration dates

Push Notifications (via Apple Push Notification Service)

  • Device push tokens (if notifications are enabled)
  • Notification preferences

Information Collected on Our Website

The website uses PostHog through the same e.soberquestapp.com subdomain, and Cloudflare Web Analytics.

The website records the page you view, how far down you scroll, how long you read, the links and buttons you click, the language you pick, page-load performance, and script errors. For acquisition it records the host of the site that sent you, such as google.com, and the campaign tokens in the link you followed: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, and utm_term. If the link carries an advertising click identifier, we keep only the name of the network, such as google_ads, and discard the identifier itself. Your first referrer and campaign are stored in your browser so a later visit can be credited to the source that first brought you.

The sobriety calculator runs entirely in your browser. The date you enter is never sent to us. Its analytics events carry a grouped day band and the milestone you viewed, nothing more.

The website sets no advertising cookies and runs no advertising pixels.

Artificial Intelligence Features

AI-Powered Insights

SoberQuest includes an optional AI Insights feature within the Cost-Benefit Analysis tool. This feature uses artificial intelligence to analyze your self-reflection entries and provide personalized insights to support your recovery journey.

What data is processed:

  • The text entries you create in the Cost-Benefit Analysis quadrants (benefits and costs of doing/not doing a behavior)
  • No identifying information, account data, or sobriety dates are sent to the AI service

How AI processing works:

  • AI analysis is provided by OpenAI through our secure backend service
  • Your data is transmitted using encrypted HTTPS connections
  • You must provide consent before using this feature for the first time

Data retention and training:

  • Your data is processed in real-time and is not stored on AI provider servers after generating your insights
  • Your data is not used to train or improve AI models
  • Generated insights are cached locally on your device for your convenience

Your control:

  • You can deny AI processing when prompted, which will prevent access to the Cost-Benefit Analysis feature, but you can still access all other app features

Third-party provider:

We use OpenAI’s API to power this feature. OpenAI processes data according to their API Data Usage Policies, which states that data sent via API is not used for training their models.

Data Storage and Security

Local Data Storage

On-Device Storage

  • All your sobriety tracking data (addictions, progress, badges, check-ins) is stored locally on your device using secure iOS UserDefaults
  • Your data remains private and is not automatically shared with our servers
  • Uninstalling the app will delete all locally stored data

Data Security Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit using industry-standard SSL/TLS protocols
  • Secure data storage using iOS security features
  • Regular security assessments
  • Access controls and authentication

However, please note that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
